Revised Training Format
Submitted by wysa on Wed, 08/01/2018 - 15:25
Based on feedback from parents, players and coaches, WYSA has decided to modify its midweek training/skills clinic format. In the past we have held midweek Group Night skills clinics for each age group. While there has been success (based on the technical play of our younger players and the league results of our older teams) with this format, we have continued to see decreasing turnout at these clinics as players age, limiting the effectiveness of those sessions for the coaches and teams.
We have taken the feedback and decided to focus more of our resources on our younger players, giving an additional session per week at the ages when technical development is so critical. With greater access to professional coaches at these earlier stages, we are confident this will help our younger players develop the technical base necessary to continue their growth and development in this competitive soccer landscape.
Our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Fall Programs
As in the past, our K, 1st & 2nd Grade players will play on Saturday afternoons at the Bird Middle School under the supervision of the NE Revolution professional coaches.
Young Age Group Teams
With the emphasis of providing more training for our younger players in mind, we have switched the midweek skills clinics to focus on 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade players (although 4th grade players who wish to attend the 3rd grade sessions are welcome to do so) as follows:
Fisher School field with the New England Revolution coaches
Mon Girls 1st Grade 5-6pm
Boys 1st Grade 6-7pm
Tue Girls 2nd Grade 5-6pm
Boys 2nd Grade 6-7pm
Wed Girls 3rd Grade 5-6pm
Boys 3rd Grade 6-7pm
Older age group teams - 4th Grade and Older teams
Coaches will determine their team's weekly practice schedule - ideally practicing twice a week. During their midweek practices, we will be scheduling time for the New England Revolution coaches to work with them and their team on areas that they would specifically like to focus on. The Revs coaches will plan to attend 2 practices per season for each team, possibly more depending on team availability.
Coaching the coaches
In addition, NE Revs coaches and some of our more 'veteran' coaches will be holding meetings throughout the season to help coach our coaches on skills, drills and practice plans that will help them and their players.
